George Jetson will be born this Sunday, July 31, 2022, according to The Lore of the Hanna-Barbera Show
If there was any doubt that the future is here (for better or for worse), just remember that you are living the life of George Jetson now.
Animation fans are celebrating an important milestone this weekend, as several knowledgeable Twitter users noticed that the Spacely Sprocket employee, husband of Jane and father to June and Ellroy, has been born on July 31, 2022.
It still gives us 40 years before the show even starts, so there's no need to feel bad about not having flying cars yet.
"The Jetsons" followed a middle-class family living in Orbit City, a chrome-tinged future where robots allow humans to live comfortably.
It was conceived as a companion show to "The Flintstones", which reimagined 1950s sitcom tropes from shows like "The Honeymooners" in a Stone Age world full of caves and dinosaurs.
"The Jetsons" took the opposite approach, becoming a sitcom about an American nuclear family that takes place in the era of flying cars and a two-hour work week.
Much of the humor stems from the fact that, in the world of the show, things remain as they have changed. Technology may have advanced in leaps and bounds, but human nature results in an equal amount of complaint and miscommunication.
But that future may not be as bright as you might think: "The Jetsons: The Movie" establishes that humans only live in stilt-condominiums above clouds because haze made it impossible to live on Earth's surface.
