Manchester United supporters hold mass protest ahead of Liverpool game
A large group of Manchester United supporters, led by their American owners, took part in a protest ahead of their Premier League match against Liverpool on Monday, angered by the club's directive.
About 10,000 supporters marched to Old Trafford and raised slogans against the Glazer family - "We want Glazers out" - holding banners asking the Americans to sell United.
As they walked from a nearby pub to the club's former Old Trafford stadium an hour before kickoff. One of the biggest matches in English football.
A large police presence appeared at Sir Matt Busby Way at the entrance to the stadium's courtyard.
Players from both teams reached the field before the start of the protest, but even after kickoff there was a large crowd of fans protesting as Man United beat Liverpool for their first win of the season.
Discontent has grown after United's poor start to the season, which saw the team lose both their games - 2-1 at home to Brighton and 4-0 at Brentford.
Most of the anger has been targeted by the Glazer family, who bought United in 2005 with a leveraged takeover that put a debt load on a club that previously had none.
