What is prosopagnosia and who gets it? Brad Pitt opens up about his struggle with 'face blindness'
Pitt hasn't received an official diagnosis for prosopagnosia, but he told GQ that he has long struggled to recognize other individuals' faces.
The actor expressed shame over battling his "face blindness", including the fear that it would have a negative effect on others about him.
"A lot of people hate me because they think I'm disrespecting them," Pitt previously told Esquire in 2013.
"You get the point, like, 'You're being cocky. You're fantasizing.' But it's a mystery to me, man. I can't detect a face and yet I came up with such a designed/aesthetic look."
While only medical professionals who specialize in neurological diseases would be able to officially determine whether Pitt actually has prosopagnosia!
That said, Pitt's interview has drawn attention to a condition that many doctors believe is more common than it currently is.
To help raise awareness of prosopagnosia, doctors created a self-report questionnaire called the Twenty Item Prosopagnosia Index (PI20), which helps individuals test themselves for the condition.
Initially there was debate about whether the benefits of such a study (raising prosopagnosia awareness) were worth the potential risk of people being falsely self-diagnosed.
Downing Street had previously claimed Mr Johnson was aware of concerns about Mr Pincher's behaviour, with no formal complaint at the time.
