Why 'Yellowstone' star Q'orianka Kilcher is being accused of fraud
Yellowstone star Koreana Kilcher is currently facing some legal issues, after being accused of workers' compensation fraud.
Kilcher, who most recently starred as Mary Palmer in The Alienist, was charged with fraud on May 27, 2022.
She is due to appear in court on August 7, 2022, after pleading not guilty to the charges.
Kilcher was paid $96,838 in benefits between October 2019 and September 2021 because of her neck and shoulder injuries during the filming of 2019's Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
Kilcher claimed she was unable to work following her injuries and had turned down multiple roles as a result.
However, an investigation revealed that she began filming scenes for the Paramount series, Yellowstone, between July and October 2019, in the same period she was receiving benefits.
A statement provided to Time by the Department of Insurance said: "According to the records, she returned to the doctor and began receiving disability benefits five days after she last worked on the show."
The Insurance Department said Kilcher had visited a doctor, but reportedly stopped attending treatment and "did not respond to the insurance company handling her claim on behalf of her employer."
In a statement, her attorney, Michael Baker, said that Kilcher was a passenger in a production vehicle when she suffered the injury.
